Why are eye glasses so expensive? Why do eyeglass shops up-sale so hard?

 Just came from the eyeglass shop, don't want to say which (should I ?), and even with my insurance I paid a great deal more than I was was hoping for. Of course, the two features I needed were only available if I spent nearly double for upgraded lenses. What kind of bunk is this? With new insurance, this was my first trip to this particular chain store. I was not very impressed. the technology seems to be a downgrade, but the prices were lower than the higher-end store I had been to previously.
  The glasses I paid $600 for in March ( that I am still waiting to be re-embursed for) got a scratch right in the sweet spot on the left lens, the one I need most of all. That really is bad. Currently, in the last days of 2023, I am wearing the glasses I got in 2021, while the pair I spent so much on nine months ago are nearly worthless.
  Money is kind of tight right now, an automatic increase of rent of 6% just kicked in, with no extra income to cover it. I spent a great deal more on Christmas than I should have. My car is having issues and may soon need serious work or even a replacement.

  I am counting on earning the 'perfect attendance' bonus at work for the fourth quarter, which after taxes is about $340. This will be my fourth bonus in a row. I am also leaving 2023 with 100 Paid Time Off (PTO) hours that I didn't use, I can carry 40 into the new year according to the current policy, but we were told to expect changes which may be announced tonight.

 Nobody is happy about working on Saturday, especially the shift manager whose birthday it is. Because of the holiday on Monday (Christmas), we won't be getting time-and-a-half. There is scuttlebutt about voluntary work on Sunday and Monday(another holiday; New Year's Day).  We should find out more tonight. I already missed church a few weeks ago for work and I am still with pangs of guilt, even though I watched the sermon online and tithed. I missed one Sunday in 2022 and still have lingering guilt over that. (Satan sure knows how to get to me).

NJ Transit Fare Holiday Adventure

When Governor Murphy announced the Fare Holiday week, which included Labor Day weekend, I knew I had to take advantage of this!  The question became when and where? It is the end of summer, so my thoughts were of ‘Summer things’ (at least in my mind). The Jersey Shore? Most certainly! But which beach? I took the Atlantic City Line train to Atlantic City on Memorial Day, which was already checked off for the summer of 2024. Maybe this was the excuse I needed to get on New Jersey Transit’s longest bus line: The 317 which runs from Philadelphia to Asbury Park and passes right in front of my home in Mt. Holly?   After checking maps and weather, the plan began to come together: First Stop: Point Pleasant Beach. What comes after that, I don’t know.
