Big Rusty and me

Big Rusty and me.

I finally went to see a local art installation that I had seen reports on.

Big Rusty by Thomas Dambo

A 20-foot troll made of recycled trash was installed in Hainesport, NJ, only about 4 miles from my home. Driving down a dirt road from Route 38 East there are no signs that point the way, so the approach is somewhat intimidating. It makes me think of the stories I have read about where the GPS directs people to drive over cliffs, down pedestrian walkways or other places that are not for automobiles. But when you come to the clearing in the woods you can’t miss the installation.

A car parked on the side of a building

Description automatically generatedWhen I got to the location there was what looked to be a photo shoot going on with two hot rods, Others were using Big Rusty as a backdrop. These guys even had a drone working shooting video of them taking still photos.

Big Rusty seems to be slightly reclining and appears to be leaning on top of an abandoned one-story building. Which is a graffiti filled structure which is open to walk though, from which you can see Rancocas Creek on which the property abuts.

A family arrived shortly after I did, which worked out well because I got to take some photos with people in them to use as perspective to Big Rusty himself.

I encourage anyone who is in the area to stop on by and see this work. by the way it is free 😊
