Happy Independence Day
Thankful that it is Independence Day! We all need to reflect and appreciate the bravery of our nation’s Founding Fathers who broke away from centuries of tradition to forge a new experiment of a democratic republic. They were risking everything that they had and the lives of not only themselves and their family but of all of the people that they were trying to liberate for something that was, for the most part, untried. There were many varying opinions amongst those gathered in Philadelphia in 1776, and through compromise and a desire to make things better for everyone they hammered out an agreement. If only our government could do something like this today.
Yes, I would be in favor of looking
at a refresh of our constitution, especially the electoral college system, but
I wouldn't trust this task to most of those currently in the highest levels of
our political process today. What can we do?
How
will I celebrate Independence Day? To my surprise I had received my paycheck a
day early, so I was able to pay some bills a day earlier than expected. Also, I
will go to the grocery store and get my weekly shopping done on my day off. I
hope to make chili and have chili dogs with some fresh corn I got at the farmer’s
market. I am also hopeful that the weather will hold out and I will be able to
make it to the Trenton Thunder baseball game this evening, where there will be
fireworks. What could be more traditional than hot dogs, baseball, and fireworks
on July 4th?
